    Hey Divers!!

For both Lakeside and Agoura High Schools you have your After School Session for the Passport Diver Program this week.

Your date for the session is Wednesday, May 7, 2008.  Classes start about 3:15 and last for 3 hours.  You will need to bring the following:

  • New Handouts:
  • $75 Passport Diver Fee
  • Even if you aren’t going to dive with us at the beach, you will eventually need these handouts for class, so start downloading and printing.

If you are planning on diving with us in Catalina, you will need to get your deposit in soon.  We only have about 10 spots left for the trip and that will change quickly every day this week.

Remember if you are a Lakeside student, you are in the pool on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Friday you will back in regular P.E. for the day only.  SCUBA will pick up on Monday where we left off.

If you are an Agoura student, you are in the pool on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  You will be in regular P.E. on Thursday and Friday this week with SCUBA returning next week on Monday.

Check the blog often, there will be more things for you to be aware of.

    Hey Agoura Divers!

Welcome to SCUBA.  I had a chance to work with periods 2 and 4 today.  Tuesday is 1 and 3.  Remember that Periods: 1,3 and 4 meet in room W-5.  Period 2 meets in room N-2.

Remember to bring your 4 forms with you.  Some of you forgot today.  I must have them turned in before you can go into the pool.  We will be getting wet on Wed. and Thurs. this week.  Every pool session is a big deal, so don’t miss any of it because your dog ate your forms or ate your printer or some other silly excuse.  Fix the problem and be prepared!!

    Parent Meeting:  Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Library!!

Don’t forget.  Have your parents come.  Lot’s of info. will be discussed.

    We can swap Shark stories:-)

    Lakeside Parent Meeting

    Hey Lakeside Divers and Parents!

Please let your parents know about our Parent Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, 2008.

This meeting is designed to answer all their questions and inform them of all your options within our program.  Remember that you don’t have to do anything in our program outside of the P.E. class; however, we hope you will consider participating in some of our outside activities.

Your Parents will appreciate the opportunity to get this information.  Remember, if they don’t feel comfortable with what you are doing, they can’t possibly say “yes” to things they have no experience with.  Give them the respect they deserve and include them in your planning.

We’ll look forward to meeting them Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.  The location will be provided to you on Monday in class.

Welcome to the Agoura High SCUBA Program

Class begins on Monday, April 28, 2008. You will need to download the following forms:

Be sure to have Mom or Dad review the paperwork and sign everything.  Remember, they aren’t giving you permission to go to the ocean, just to spend time in a heated swimming pool and a classroom.  If you think this might be an activity for you, then make sure they ATTEND THE PARENT MEETING set for Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 6:30 p.m - 8:00 p.m..

HAVE FUN with SCUBA.  This is a different type of a P.E. class.  You will learn, try different things and most importantly, enjoy scuba diving.  It won’t always be easy, but it will usually be fun.  Some days are class and some are pool.  Some days we will learn and some days we’ll explore.  You will find it hard to go through an entire class without smiling at least a couple of times, unless you like being BORING!

Maybe you’ll go to the ocean, maybe not.  Maybe you’ll join us on a boat to Catalina, a plane to Cozumel or just a trip down to the beach.  No matter what, come prepared to participate.  This is a different P.E. class, but still a class.  You’ll be expected in class the first day with the handouts printed and signed, your $20 lab fee and a small amount of enthusiasm.  I caution all my students, this class will only be as exciting as you let it.  Come to have fun and you will have a great time.  However, if you come expecting me to prove that SCUBA is fun you may be bored to tears.  See you all on Monday or Tuesday, depending upon your schedule.

If you are unable to open the .pdf forms linked above, you may need to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader which is also available, for free, at http://www.adobe.com/.  If you save it to your hard drive, you will not have to download it again and all our forms should open easily

To complete the Naui Waiver form fill in the blanks as follows:

    Hey Elsinore Divers!!

What a great first dive weekend.  Divers showed up, followed directions, played in the water and all is well with the world.

Masa didn’t get back to the dive shop until after 2:00p.m.  I asked him what took so long and he said, “They really like the water.”  I think it was just too hot in Elsinore to be heading home too early.

Masa has indicated the following schedule for the coming week:

This schedule is subject to change, so check back often.  Masa has the final say as to what you’re doing and when.  Always check with him.

Plan to make your dive reservations early in the week.  There are a limited number of spaces available.

    Hey Elsinore Divers!!

You need some more handouts and study guides.

For everyone, print the following:  www.scubastuff.com/student/env.jpg

    For the Passport Program:

Don’t forget your forms for Thursday’s after school session.  The Parent Meeting went great.  An excellent turnout with great questions and parents.  Now, if you didn’t get the answer you want from Mom and Dad, you need to have them contact the shop and ask for John.  Let him help you work with them to take care of whatever their concerns may be.

    Remember, classroom on Wednesday!!

    Hey Marina Divers!

Here is your schedule for the coming week, March 31, 2008.

  • Friday - Pool Session - Deep Pool free swim.  You have learned and demonstrated your understanding of SCUBA skills.  If you have done well, you will be allowed to enjoy some freedom in the deep pool with the equipment.  HAVE FUN!!
  • Beach Diving Recap - Several of our students joined us for their first beach dive on Saturday, March 22, 2008.  I am please with both the turnout and the results.  Our dive conditions were not great, but that didn’t stop anyone from making their best efforts.  We had several people completing 20′ deep dives holding their breath.  Others showed considerable improvement from the first dive to their last.  One young diver even went to far as to start off with some tears and graduate to being all smiles after successfully learning how to handle herself in the ocean.  I was very proud of all of you.   Remember, it doesn’t matter if you were perfect.  Perfection comes with practice.  We can always be perfect with practice.  The real success is in handling yourself under less than perfect conditions and seeing yourself improve with every effort.  That is something you can all be proud of.

Make up dates for the Skin Dive will be announced on Tuesday.  SCUBA dive dates will be announced as well.
